“I am also human.” Yamal’s friend collapses after a violent wave of hatred

A wave of backlash prompted Spanish content creator Ines Garcia, girlfriend of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, to issue a lengthy statement on the X platform to defend herself after she shared pictures and videos of Spain’s 2026 World Cup celebrations that showed the player was ignoring the wider spectrum of their relationship.

Users of the X platform widely shared pictures from the official celebrations of the Spanish national team in Madrid, in which Lamine Yamal barely paid attention to his powerful girlfriend based in Seville, prompting thousands of people to comment that their relationship was on the verge of collapse, amid hate messages and insults directed at the girl.

Ines, who has officially been in a relationship with the Barcelona star for more than 3 months, despite admitting that “our relationship is much longer than you can imagine”, felt the need to respond to the vicious attack she suffered, so she published an emotional statement on her personal account, where she began to say:

“I read the comments for hours and despite my attempts to appear strong, I am also human. Behind this account is a person who feels, cries, makes mistakes, and doesn’t stop being human just because they’re in an emotional relationship.”

Ines wanted to clarify the difference between constructive criticism and intentional abuse, saying: “I understand constructive criticism, but there is a big difference between expressing an opinion and wasting time humiliating, insulting or wishing harm on a stranger,” stressing that he does not harm Lamine Yamal because “he didn’t take anything from anyone, I’m just living my life.”

The Spanish influencer urged her followers to have compassion and humanity, saying: “Before you write any comments, remember that there is another person on the other side of the screen who has family, friends, fears and feelings. You don’t know how your words can affect him.”

“I’m a woman with feelings and I have a family that reads these things too and I go through good days and bad days like everyone else. I’m not trying to convince anyone to love me. I’m just asking for a little compassion, a little humanity, because no one deserves to receive hundreds or thousands of hateful messages.”
