Hyundai says the humanoid robot system is not part of negotiations with the striking workers

Hyundai Motor Company’s plan to put humanoid robots to work by 2028 is not part of current discussions with South Korean workers, according to the company.

The automaker denies the news story that a partial strike and the Hyundai Motor union at the world’s largest auto company in South Korea was fueled by concerns about the company’s plans to export humanoid robots to the United States starting in 2028. A company statement shared with Ars outlines what Ars wants to focus on compensation-related issues such as raising wages, bonuses, and extending retirement years.

“The deployment of robots in Korean manufacturing facilities is not part of the labor management negotiations,” according to a Hyundai statement. “Hyundai Motor Company remains committed to moving forward with this agreement and to achieving an agreement that supports the long-term interests of our employees and the company.”
