Hull City boss Sergej Zakirovic didn’t hold back when asked about his feelings on where the furore surrounding Southampton’s actions had placed his own side.
“All we can say is that these last two weeks everything has been unfair. You don’t know what’s going on,” He told BBC Radio Humberside.
“We’re collateral damage because we’re waiting for (an) opponent and you don’t know what’s going on, what’s going on.”
The Tigers, who Beat third-placed Millwall The division’s surprise package this season, securing their place in the play-off final last Monday.
The East Yorkshire side survived relegation to League One on goal difference before appointing former Bosnia international Zakirovic as their new boss last May.
They were then hit with a three-window transfer ban, which was later reduced to two after a successful appeal, and some downgraded them as promotion contenders.
However, they confounded those expectations and spent most of the season in the top six.
The Tigers were still in automatic contention at the end of March only to end their seventh day streak in April for a six-game stretch.
A home win against Norwich City and Boro’s draw at Wrexham meant they were back in the play-off spots when it mattered most and they beat the Lions, who finished three places and 10 points above, to reach Wembley.
Hull, who are looking for a third win in their third Championship play-off final, will be without forward Kyle Joseph due to injury in the win at Millwall.
