Reaching an agreement with Chancery was never going to be easy.
During the administration process, Thai was made several offers for his debt, which were either rejected outright, ignored or not taken in good faith.
“The EFL had to consider the antisocial spirit shown by Mr Chancery and his reluctance to engage with the bidder’s proposal,” football finance expert Kieran Maguire told BBC Sport.
It was last week that things fell into place.
Chancery was given an offer that would see him, in effect, at around 25p in the pound.
But he won’t get a penny now – it will all be based on the club’s future success.
“We’re probably talking about promotion to the Championship first, and the Premier League schedule. Then he can get his 25%,” Maguire said.
The EFL said the offer must be on the table for a short period of time to show it is credible and serious.
But there was one final act that can only sum up Chansiri’s tenure, As reported by the Sheffield Star, outsider.
A response to the proposal was due by midday on Tuesday. Chansiri decided to accept, but replied too late – a few minutes after the deadline.
Chancery – subject to any challenge – would now have nothing left.
After agreeing to scrap Wednesday’s 15-point concession, the EFL board made a few more conditions.
Football creditors and HMRC had to pay in full, while all other unsecured creditors – local businesses – got their 25p straight away.
If the EFL was less flexible, those firms faced much lower returns.
“The EFL probably took the view that HMRC was being paid 100%, football creditors 100% and other unsecured creditors 25%, with other stakeholders being treated fairly,” Maguire added.
“So there was a clear case for no punishment.”
Arise immediately had to make a firm commitment to invest in the dilapidated stadium.
In his speech at the pitch on Saturday, Storch promised that toilets would have both running water and hot water.
It may sound like a joke, but anyone who has attended Hillsborough in recent seasons will know it’s anything but.
Don’t hang up. Almost £7m of outstanding charges against Hillsborough by Chancery were cleared on Wednesday.
