Intense debate continues in the corridors of Al Hilal over the future of Italian first-team coach Simeone Inzaghi, with views sharply divided on whether he should stay or leave for the start of next season.
Al Hilal signed Inzaghi in June 2025 to lead the team to outstanding results at the Club World Cup in the United States of America, before bowing out of the AFC Champions League, winning the domestic cup title and then losing the Saudi Roshan League title to rivals Al-Nasri by just two points in the final round of the competition.
According to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiah, Prince Nawaf bin Saad, chairman of the club’s board of directors, favors the idea of signing a new manager who is more suited to the team’s culture and human capabilities on the pitch, while Spaniard Steve Calzada, the club’s general manager, sees an additional opportunity to extend the Italian coach. season
Calzada bases his stance on the fact that Inzaghi has had a good season in terms of results and numbers, in addition to his belief that the coach’s second season could be even better as he gained more experience with the nature of competition in Saudi football, as well as the ability to meet his technical needs in the upcoming summer transfer market.
The paper adds that decisive meetings between decision-makers within the club will take place in the next two weeks to resolve the issue once and for all, suggesting Inzaghi will continue for another season, especially as the termination would oblige Al-Hilal to pay the full value of the Italian manager’s contract for the remainder of the season.
