According to the French network “stats foot”, Hossam Hasan became the third African coach in history to manage a team outside the World Cup qualifiers, after Moroccans Walid Regraghi and Mohamed Wehbe.

Regraghi guided the Atlas Lions to a fourth-placed finish at the 2022 World Cup, while Morocco, under Wehbe’s watch, qualified for their eighth final of the current competition, beating the Netherlands on penalties.

Egypt also became the fifth African nation to win at least one match in the knockout stages of the World Cup after Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, Ghana in 2010 and Morocco in 2022 and 2026.

With this victory, the Egyptian team set the day of the 1/8 finals with the winner of the match between Argentina and Cape Verde.
