“Egyptians are passionate about football… and we are aiming for a historic performance at the 2026 World Cup.”
Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, spoke about the many documents related to the Pharaohs’ participation in the 2026 World Cup, stressing that leading the national team was a dream that he pursued since the last days of his career.
The Egyptian national team is preparing for the upcoming confrontation against the Belgian national team tomorrow, Monday, at the “Lumen” stadium, within the framework of the seventh group of the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
Group Seven features Egypt, Belgium, Iran and New Zealand in a group that looks open to all possibilities in light of strong competition for two places to qualify for the next round.
Hossam Hasan said on the YouTube platform of the International Football Federation (FIFA) channel. “Football has been my life since I was a child until the moment I speak. It was a great honor for me to captain the Egyptian national team for a long time before retiring from the game.”
“Before I retired, I always envisioned myself as the coach of the Egyptian national team, and it was a big dream for me. The reason for that is that I don’t think about anything else than football, and to reach the World Cup, whether as a player or as a coach, is a very big thing.”
Egypt deserves a greater status in the world
He emphasized that the Egyptian national team deserves a greater position in the world arena, saying. “Egypt national team should get its real status in the world of football. We did well in the 1990 World Cup and I hope we can do better in the 2026 World Cup.”
Hossam Hassan also expressed his pride in experiencing the World Cup as a player and coach, noting that he was part of the generation that brought Egypt back to the World Cup in 1990.
“I am very happy to represent my country in the World Cup finals, whether as a player in 1990 or now as a coach in 2026.
I hope Salah surpasses me in terms of goals
Hossam Hassan praised the great role of Mohamed Salah in the Egyptian national team, stressing that he is one of the most important elements of the team and one of the most outstanding stars of world football in recent years.
“Mohamed Salah has broken many world records and he is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world. I hope he will manage to score more goals than I have scored in my football career.”
“I think the most important thing is that we focus on winning and that Salah scores more goals that help the team win without doing anything else. This will be a great thing for the national team and it will give me great happiness on a personal level as well.”
Winning and making the fans happy is the priority for the Pharaohs
“Winning with Salah’s goals and achieving positive results means a lot to me as the coach of the Egyptian national team. The most important thing is to live up to the expectations of the Egyptian fans during the World Cup, because I know very well that for Egyptians, football is not just a game, but a part of their daily life.”
Hossam Hassan also highlighted the importance of the Egypt captain’s experience, stressing that the team is in dire need of Mohamed Salah’s ability and experience inside the green box during the tournament.
He noted that football occupies a unique position in Egyptian society, explaining that its great popularity makes it an integral part of Egyptian culture, which doubles the amount of responsibility placed on the national team.
Hossam Hassan concluded his remarks by emphasizing his great confidence in the support of the Egyptian fans, saying that Egyptians love their country and always look forward to seeing their team among the best teams in the world, expressing hope that the Pharaohs will succeed in achieving results that match the fans’ aspirations during the 2026 World Cup competitions.
