Honor and tears as Starmer takes his final Prime Minister’s Questions

Chancellor Rachel Reeves – who was next to Sir Kiir on the front bench as usual – was seen in tears.

Labor MP Caroline Harris was overcome with emotion as she told MPs: “Every day we see his decency and his courage shine through.”

Sir Keir will hand over the reins to Andy Burnham on Monday after the former Greater Manchester mayor was confirmed as Labor leader at a special Labor conference on Friday.

Conservative leader Kimi Baden refrained from attacking the Prime Minister’s record in office; Instead, he praised his work on Ukraine and his friendship with the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

But she has aimed some jibes at absent Labor MPs and their next leader during every PMQs session since returning to parliament last month.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey said Sir Keir had worked with people in the House of Commons and described him as a “true patriot”.

A number of the Prime Minister’s guests were in attendance, including campaigners he had met during his time at Downing Street.

He addressed some of them directly when he said: “To those in the gallery whose lives have been changed or improved by this Labor government, and to all those across the country struggling to be seen and heard, you are the reason I got into politics.”

Despite being forced out by his own MPs two years after winning the election, Sir Kier was greeted with cheers from the Labor benches when he arrived in the House of Commons.

As is often the case with a Prime Minister’s final question session, his speech was milder and more light-hearted than usual, with plenty of jokes about England’s World Cup hopes as well as the Clutton by-election.

However, it began on a note where Sir Kiir paid tribute to former MP Anne Widdecombe.

He said it was “sad” that three serving or former MPs had been killed during his time in Parliament.

ADB hailed the former Conservative minister as a woman of “high principle” with a “wicked joke”.
