Erling Holland refused to consider himself the world’s top goalscorer despite leading his country to a 4-1 victory over Iraq with two goals in his first World Cup game.
Holland, who took his tally to 57 goals in 51 internationals, said he was very proud to make his World Cup debut and lead Norway to their first World Cup win in 28 years.
The Manchester City star added on the website Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) After the meeting, on Wednesday morning. “It’s a great feeling, of course, and I’m very proud to play my first match at the World Cup and for Norway to win the tournament for the first time in 28 years.”
“My first goal was beautiful and the second was even more beautiful, so it’s great and I’m proud that we got off to a good start.”

Although manager Stal Solbakken has praised him and described him as the best goalscorer in the world, the Manchester City striker was humble in his assessment, saying:
“I think Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe scored more goals than me, so no, I’m not the best.”
Haaland also praised his relationship with Solbakken, noting that the pair have managed to build a strong understanding since the coach took charge of the national team.
“We developed good relations and performed well on the field, which is the most important thing,” said the 25-year-old football player.
Holland scored 38 goals for Manchester City in the 2025-2026 season, while scoring 51 of his 57 international goals under Solbakken.
