The Bosnian star won’t be alone for long with this number
Bosnian veteran Edin Dzeko bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup in a remarkable performance after playing in the round of 32 against the United States of America.
The Bosnian national team exited the tournament after losing to the hosts with two unanswered goals on Thursday morning.
But Dzeko left his mark on the historic record as soon as he started the European team in today’s game, where he was injured 51 minutes from time.
Dzeko became the first player (excluding goalkeepers) aged 40 or over to feature in a World Cup qualifier, according to statistics from the Opta network.
The Bosnian star played the game at the age of 40 years and 106 days.

But Dzeko won’t be alone in this tally for long, as Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, could equal it, as well as Croatia star Luka Modric (40), hours later if they take part in the Round of 32 clash between the two teams in the early hours of tomorrow, Friday.
