Here’s what Netflix’s new stand-up video is like

Netflix has started rolling out a major overhaul of its mobile app, and at the center of it is a new standalone video called “Clips” where you can watch Netflix shows, movies, and more.

The idea behind Clips feed is that it can help you find new content to watch in a mobile-friendly format. The company he started trying vertical videos last year, saying at the time that “we know that social media surfing is the easiest way to watch videos.” The new mobile UI will begin rolling out starting Thursday in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, the UK, and the US.

The updated mobile app still opens on the Home tab, but the navigation bar has new tabs: it now includes Home, Photos, Search, and My Netflix. Click on Clips and the app will show you a video from what it thinks you might like. The UI you see on Clip is similar to what you’ll see in a TikTok or Instagram Reel video, including buttons to share the clip and add a video or slideshow to your site.

Initially, the Clip feed only shows videos and clips; Down the line, Netflix says it will add movies from its growing library of podcasts and life experiences to Clip feed. Netflix is also planning to add a Collections tab to Clips so you can watch movies with themes like comedy or reality TV.

The Home tab is getting updates, too. The New & New Netflix section, which was previously a dedicated tab at the bottom of the bar, will be available as one of the few categories that will appear at the top of Home.

“Our vision is to make the experience on our phone as exciting as you see it, giving you a personalized experience in every moment,” said chief product and technology officer Elizabeth Stone in a statement. “This is just the beginning.”
