In 2024, Sony, along with Universal Music Group and Warner Records, sued Udio and music artist AI Suno. After gaining access to information about Udio’s studies in the discovery, Sony is said to have identified some songs using the “audio fingerprinting” method. Sony issued a request to add more than 30,000 songs Udio says he “copied and entered his own AI models,” but a the judge later refused the company’s move, leaving the number of original cases at 333 jobs.
Sony has now made more than 30,000 songs the subject of its new cases, which the company says it can expand. It says Udio “acknowledged that its artificial AI models” were created by showing the project many different types of audio, “including from YouTube. UMG and Warner Music Group settled with Udio and is now associated with the company as the music industry incorporates AI.
