Henry Pollock and Noah Calluri scored starts for England

Young England stars Henry Pollock and Noah Calluri look on after scoring for their country. 73-8 thrashing of Fiji on Saturday.

Pollock, 21, claimed a hat-trick after being introduced as a 48th-minute substitute at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, while 19-year-old Caluri, making his debut off the bench, set up a score before diving over himself for Henry Slade.

“The big thing for me at the moment is to get that starting shirt,” said Pollock, who has started just once in 12 Tests for England.

“Steve (Borthwick) told me before the Fiji match to go out there and be myself. I hope I did that and hopefully he saw enough in me.”

Pollock admitted that England’s strength is “crazy good” in depth, with Ollie Chesham, Tom Curry, Guy Pepper and Ben Earl also competing for positions in the back row.

However, a strong finish to the season with club side Northampton, with six Test tries in his short international career, prompted Pollock to give him a run from the start.

“I’m just trying to focus on myself and focus on my performance. Hopefully I’ll get the results off the back of it,” Pollock added.

Saracens’ Caloury, who is joint top of the Prem try-scoring standings this season, will have to see off some significant competition if he is to secure a long-term starting spot.
