Helicopters drop water as Norway’s massive fire destroys homes

More than 100 homes have been destroyed by a massive fire in southern Norway’s Drammen, rescue officials said.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated from the area, about 30 miles west of Oslo. No injured or missing persons have been reported yet.

Dozens of firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze, which has spread to nearby forest. According to the local police, the fire is still not under control.

It is not immediately known where or how the fire started, but a Drammen Red Cross worker said it spread quickly because of the weather.

“It says something about the heat we’ve had recently. It was very dry. So once the fire started, it spread quickly. That’s what we saw,” Thomas Evgen told Reuters.
