He won’t be leaving Liverpool…surprising deal sees Richard Hughes move to Al Hilal

“Al Hilal” club is close to reaching an agreement with the sporting director of “Liverpool” football club, Scottish Richard Hughes, to fill the same position in the Saudi club next season.

Al Hilal have held talks with Hughes to take on the long-term role of sporting directorHowever, matters were not resolved as he was keen not to leave Liverpool until next summer’s transfer window.

Italian journalist Sascha Tavoleri reported on his personal account of the “X” website that a compromise was reached, according to which Hughes will take over the management of the summer mercato club “Al Hilal” at the same time as Liverpool.

Tavoleri explained that Simon Charles Francis has already started working at the Al Hilal club as one of the members of the Scottish sporting director’s team, where he is considered his right-hand man.

Hughes will lead the summer mercato for Al Hilal through Simon Charles before officially taking over as sporting director of the Saudi club after the end of next summer’s transfer window.

Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, the new owner of Al-Hilal Club, wants to create an integrated sports structure at the Saudi club after acquiring 70% of its shares last April.

In addition to new deals, Hughes is expected to resolve many of the outstanding issues at Al-Zaim Castle, notably the position of Italian coach Simone Inzaghi and the players who will be leaving the team.
