Last night, Tuesday, the Spanish sports scene witnessed unusual, dramatic developments after Florentino Perez’s unexpected press conference turned into an open confrontation with the press.
The president of “Real Madrid” held an emergency press conference yesterday, during which he denied the rumors about his resignation and announced the extraordinary elections of the board of directors of the club, while confirming his candidacy.
But the conference quickly derailed as Perez lashed out at the Spanish press, accusing it of waging a campaign against his interests and those of the Royals, led by ABC newspaper and journalist Ruben Canizares.

After a heated exchange between the two sides during the conference, Canizares wrote back to Perez through his account on the X platform.
“Florentino Perez held a press conference to try to humiliate the ABC newspaper, the Vicento Group and me personally, and I was not going to let him do that,” he said.
“There are limits that cannot be crossed,” Canizares continued. “I’m very proud of my work and my newspaper, that’s for sure.”
Yesterday, Peres announced that he was canceling his subscription to the Spanish newspaper. “My father subscribed to me 40 or 50 years ago, and I would do him better if I canceled my subscription because my dad wouldn’t understand how you (Canizares) could write for ABC,” he said.
