He turned down 8 million… Conte’s shocking decision

Antonio Conte has decided his future at Napoli and is set to end his spell with the southern club at the end of the current season, which ends next week against Udinese at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, all Italian media confirmed on Tuesday morning.

Ending a successful career

Although the 56-year-old is under contract until the summer of 2027, he believes his tenure at the Partenopei has come to an end after two exceptional seasons in which he managed to return Napoli to the throne of Italian football, winning the league title in 2025.

In a move that reflects his complete confidence in his decision, Conte will forego the €8 million he was paid in the final year of his contract, clearly indicating that his departure was purely for personal reasons, far from financial or administrative disputes.

Friendly departure with De Laurentiis

The split will be amicable with president Aurelio De Laurentiis having previously said he respected his coach’s wishes, stressing that he would not stand in the way of his departure if it was what he wanted.

What’s next for Naples?

As for the future of the Italian coach, it is still unclear. Despite currently having a vacancy for the position of coach of the Italian national team, Conte has not yet received any official offer, either from the Italian federation or from other clubs.

A year off seems highly likely, especially after a busy career that took him from Juventus to Chelsea and Inter Milan before finishing with remarkable success at Napoli.
