Riquelme went through a very difficult period in his life
Real Madrid’s presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme’s journey to ascent has witnessed many scenes and many stations that have brought him to the stage of competition for this high office.
This week Riquelme appeared on The Wild Project podcast presented by Jordi Wild on Rac1 Radio as part of his campaign to explain the project he is working on.
To many, Riquelme is an unknown figure who suddenly appeared on the Real Madrid scene to compete with Florentino Perez for the presidency.
This is partly true as he has never been publicly linked with Real Madrid. But the truth is that the man from Alicante has been working behind the scenes for some time, and Florentino Perez introduced him in a press conference after announcing Real’s intention to call a presidential election, saying:
The candidate spent his academic life in Alicante, but later left the university and moved to Panama. There, he began working on projects related to the expansion of the Panama Canal and founded various companies in the materials supply industry before moving into the energy and infrastructure sectors.
But to get to his current financial position, he passed Enrique Riquelme Going through a very difficult period in his life, he faced a difficult situation in Panama where he suffered severe financial difficulties and struggled to meet his basic expenses.
Riquelme explained that he went to the pawnshop with a very valuable item, a Rolex watch, which was given to him by his father, with his name engraved on the back.
Within an hour, he was earning $220, money he desperately needed to pay the rent.
This money allowed him to temporarily make ends meet and meet one of his basic needs during a time of severe financial hardship.
A few days later, twelve days to be exact, Riquelme was able to complete the sale of the sand, which allowed him to earn income and return the pawned watch.
A memory that over time became one of the most important moments of his personal and professional life. Years later, after he had established himself as a businessman and founder of large companies in the renewable energy sector, Riquelme described this experience as a turning point in his life.
He said: “I was going to give up. You have to fight to the end. I could only wait to get my money. I pawned my watch, they gave me $220, and I got the money back 12 days later.”
He continued. “I went and took my watch back and said, ‘We have to change our mindset, we have to become more professional.’ That was in 2011. In 2012, I had two factories, I started working in the energy sector, and I realized that the country is growing, that there is an abundance of sun, and I created a huge demand for the largest energy demand in Guate.
According to Sport newspaper, the watch Riquelme is referring to is a Rolex Air-King, which retails for €8,050 at authorized dealers.
However, the final price varies greatly depending on whether you buy it new from an authorized dealer or on the secondary market.
