A firm mark on African history during the World Cup
Brahim Diaz’s decision to represent Morocco at the expense of Spain was not just an international choice, but rather a bet on a project he believed in from the start. Months after making that move, the results seem to be giving him the best reaction he deserves inside the green rectangle.
Fate AS newspaper The Moroccan star praised his brilliance in a special report, stressing that the Real Madrid star continues to perform at remarkable levels for the Atlas Lions at the 2026 World Cup after establishing himself as one of the tournament’s most popular playmakers, stressing that his selection for Morocco was not a risk but rather a deliberate decision at the right time.
Diaz has a goal and four assists in five World Cup games to top the tournament’s top scorers list and is the best ever by an African player after scoring twice for both Azedine Onahi and Sofia Rahimi in Saturday night’s last 16 win over Canada.

The 26-year-old is enjoying his best international season as he plays with great freedom in his position behind the forwards under technical director Mohamed Wehbe, with a constant penchant for going deep and creating danger near the penalty area.
“Everything is going great. I am very happy with what I got. The support and love I have found since arriving in Morocco is incredible. Providing the best version of myself is a special feeling and I am proud of what I have to offer. We have a great group that makes us enjoy every moment.”
The report stated that Diaz knew that the World Cup could represent his footballing maturity moment after establishing himself at Real Madrid and all he needed was a chance to show his potential at international level.
“On the other hand, the player gained enough confidence with the Spanish national team before receiving an offer from the Moroccan federation, which presented him with an ambitious sporting project that included competing for the African Cup of Nations and competing for the World Cup.”
Since then, Diaz has continued to make his mark on the Moroccan national team as he helped win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and won the tournament’s best player award, before continuing to shine at the 2026 World Cup, confirming that his choice to represent the Atlas Lions was the right decision at the right time.
