The 2026 World Cup has lost one of its heroes
The 2026 World Cup witnessed many events, some of which seemed happy and others sad, but one of the worst was the martyrdom of one of the champions of this World Cup in the Gaza Strip.
It refers to Muhammad Fawaz Al-Wahidi, Director of the Office of Mukhtars and Notables at the Egyptian Committee in Gaza, who was martyred last Tuesday evening as a result of a rocket attack by the Zionist occupation forces, according to the report. British newspaper The Guardian.
Al-Wahidi was not the only one who was martyred in this bombing, as he was followed by two brothers aged 8 and 10 and another man who was present on the street near the site.
The Zionist occupation forces admitted to carrying out the bombing that killed Al-Wahidi, but confirmed that they targeted Hamas fighters.
Al-Wahidi was one of the champions of the 2026 World Cup in Gaza City, where he was directly responsible for broadcasting the tournament’s matches in the Strip after years of assisting.
Although he was the champion of the World Cup in Gaza, he did not make the most important match for the fans, the match between Egypt and Argentina in the 1/16 round of the World Cup, because he was bombed about an hour before it started.
According to his family, the bombing occurred on Al-Wahidi as he boarded a taxi to travel to the Tal Al-Hawa neighborhood south of Gaza City to watch the Egypt-Argentina match, which he was able to watch in person.
Palestinian fans rallied strongly in the Gaza Strip to support Egypt’s national team at the 2026 World Cup, especially following statements by its coach Hossam Hassan, in which he called on the world to intervene to protect the Palestinian people.
