Gilberto Moura broke into the list of the youngest players of the World Cup

The youngster, Mexico’s Gilberto Moura, scored one of the biggest goals in World Cup history after featuring in South Africa’s 2026 opener.

The national team of Mexico, hosting the tournament with the United States of America and Canada, defeated the South African team with a score of 2:0 in the match held at the “Azteca” stadium yesterday, Thursday evening.

At the beginning of the match, coach Javier Aguirre preferred to keep Moura on the bench, but in the 66th minute he included him at the expense of his partner Brian Gutierrez.

According to the statistics of the specialist network Opta, Moura became the youngest player to represent the host country in the history of the World Cup, as he played the game at the age of 17 years and 240 days.
