Golden Boy is nominating four people for the crown
Retired Belgium star Eden Hazard has warned his country against Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, stressing that the Red Devils’ opener will not be easy despite his belief that Belgium have the upper hand in the group.
Belgium are in Group Seven alongside Egypt, Iran and New Zealand at the current World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Hazard said in a statement to the official FIFA website. “There is no doubt that Belgium are the best in this group, but the first match is never easy.”
Hazard praised France coach Rudy Garcia, the Belgium coach, despite it being his first experience with the national team, stressing that his experience and genuine personality make him capable of leading the team during the tournament.
As for the top contenders to win the 2026 World Cup title, Hazard named France, Spain, England and Portugal as contenders for the title, but he also hinted at the possibility of a major surprise during the tournament.
The former Belgium star confirmed that Ecuador’s national team have the qualities to make them the “dark horse” of the tournament, praising the level of defender Willian Pacho and the Latin team’s ability to upset scores in the knockout stages.
Hazard also recalled his memories of the World Cup, particularly the 2018 game in which he led Belgium to third place, saying it was the best period of his football career, both physically and mentally.
