While meeting with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) officials in Manama, Bahrain, Rubio said the US wants a stable relationship with Tehran – but not at any cost. He also stressed that Iran should not charge ships to cross the Strait of Hormuz and not have nuclear weapons.

All of this comes with a record of unprecedented attacks launched against the Gulf states and Iran during the war.

The GCC now wants to say more about what happens behind their backs. This includes security and the Strait of Hormuz.

But can Washington ease the concerns of the Gulf states and ensure that their voices are heard?
