For now, the trip is expected to go ahead as planned, which will include Meghan and their children traveling to England.
Prince Harry has previously said he would not bring his wife and children into the country without enhanced security arrangements.
“At this point I can’t see a world where I can bring my wife and children back to England,” he told the BBC last year.
The challenge lies in the decisions of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVIC), which decides on security arrangements for senior members of the royal family and other members of the public.
Prince Harry’s team argued that he was not provided with a level of security commensurate with the risk – and questioned whether the potential threat had been adequately assessed.
There had been an unsuccessful legal challenge by the Prince over police protection, and during that time his wife and children had not visited England or seen the King – Archie and Libet’s grandfather.
In the year Prince Harry and Meghan were together in the United Kingdom at the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
The prince has since traveled alone to England – meeting his father last September, in what was seen as a step towards rapprochement.
But it seems efforts are still being made to ensure next week’s trip goes ahead as planned – and so far there have been no changes to events, venues or participants.
Prince Harry and his family have been given accommodation on the royal estate, which comes with security already in place.
But the prince also points to the dangers of external events – the trip will promote the inaugural Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham next year.
His spokesman said: “Prince Harry’s program in the UK includes both public and private engagements across the country.
“Safe accommodation is only one part of an effective preventive security plan because danger follows the person, not the place.”
The government said it would not comment on special security arrangements for high-profile figures, but a spokesman said it would be “robust and proportionate”.
The spokesperson added: “It is our long-standing policy not to provide details of these events, as doing so would compromise their integrity and potentially jeopardize the safety of individuals.”
