Kane blamed ITV reporter Gabriel ClarkeAttempting to “divisive” his style of questioning during the interview he conducted with Jude Bellingham after the Three Lions’ win against Norway.

The questions from Clarke, who has been with the net for more than three decades, came after he asked the England star to comment on comments made by manager Thomas Tuchel moments earlier.

The German coach described his players as “lucky” after a 2-1 win in Miami, given that the mentality of the team saw them overcome a Norway team led by Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard and their teammates.

The comments prompted an angry response from Bellingham, who questioned whether Tuchel “knows how to play” in temperatures above 40 degrees in top-flight matches.

The Real Madrid player’s comments have been widely circulated, sparking fears of a row between him and Tuchel ahead of England’s upcoming quarter-final clash with Argentina next Wednesday.

But Keane took Clarke and the media to task, saying the “English mentality” tended to be divisive at major tournaments.

The captain of England said in the statement of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). “When you play a match like this and then you’re asked just five minutes after the final whistle, and Jude didn’t know exactly what the manager said, what did you expect his answer to be?”

He added: “We have just come out of a real battle and the match was very difficult. It’s easy to try to create this division. It seems to be an English mentality or something we are used to in major tournaments.”

He continued. “But the truth is completely the opposite. We are in this position because of the cohesion of the group and not only because of the players but also because of the technical and administrative staff. Sometimes things are hyped up more than they’re worth.”

Tuchel also accused his players of “making things too difficult for themselves” in the match in Miami, which went into extra time after Norway took the lead in the first half through Andreas Schilderup’s goal.

The German coach said. “The loyalty was there, but we made it too difficult for ourselves. We were careless, made too many technical errors and didn’t act quickly enough or with the continuity we needed.”

In response to these statements, Kane stressed that the players “understand” their manager’s criticism and that they “know better than others” when they are not performing at the required level.

The 32-year-old captain of England added. “We understand what the coach meant. He spoke very highly of this group and said that the mentality of the team, which is sometimes the most difficult aspect of football, has been at the highest level and that is what we have maintained for a while.”

Kane continued his statements by saying: “He always expresses what he feels, and people appreciate that. When he speaks, his words are not prepared in advance, and that makes him who he is.’

He continued. “When he speaks spontaneously, you believe him and you believe what he says and the approach he follows.”

He concluded. “He is one of the best coaches in the world for a reason. We understand his path and over the last two years we’ve gotten to know him well and understand what makes him happy.”
