Harry Brooke accepts the England Test captaincy and believes that it is possible to lead the country in all three formats.
England are looking for a new Test captain following the retirement of Ben Stokes and Stokes has given his “100% support” to succeed Brooke.
“I don’t think you can turn down England Test captain,” Brook told BBC Sport.
It is an honor and a privilege to be a Test Captain – the pinnacle of our sport.
“It’s not up to me to make that decision. It’s up to people above me. I’d be happy to do it if asked.”
Brooke, 27, was named England’s white-ball captain last year and has been Stokes’ Test vice-captain for the final Ashes tour of the winter.
As Stokes’ deputy, he is an obvious candidate to become the 83rd man to lead England in Test cricket, with Stokes’ predecessor Joe Root perhaps the only other option.
But Brook has a heavy workload as one of England’s leading multi-format players, with his demands changing from the Test series against New Zealand to the five-match T20 series against India at Chester-le-Street on Wednesday.
A busy schedule saw Brook only meet all-rounder James Coles, who has been given his first call-up to the England squad, in training on Tuesday.
The last person to manage England at the same time was Andrew Strauss in 2009. Strauss, who leads the T20 team, has been dropped for one match.
When asked if becoming a tri-format captain is possible, Brooke replied: “I think it’s possible. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but I definitely think it’s possible.”
“Not playing franchise cricket means there are seasons in my calendar when I don’t play cricket.
“I will focus on fitness and prepare to play all three formats, which has been my dream since I could walk and talk. Whether or not I captain England in Test cricket, I will still be happy to play for England.”
England XI for first T20 against India on Wednesday: Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook (captain), Jacob Bethel, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Adil Rashid, Luke Wood, Saqib Mahmood.
