Guy Gardner makes a cameo in the new Lanterns teaser

LampThe new DC Universe series coming to HBO Max, has dropped a amazing teaser in March which swapped out the classic superheroes for realism in the vein of True Investigators and Slow Horses. Personally, I liked the change; it pushed a series that wasn’t on my radar onto my 2026 must-see list. I think HBO is worried that people will miss out on the super-successful vibes, because the latest trailer ties in a lot of high-energy stuff and middle-of-the-road stuff. And you know what? I’m still here because of it.

According to the official press release, “The series follows newbie John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and legendary Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two middle-class cops who are drawn to dark, underworld secrets as they investigate murders across America.” There will be two stories: one set in 2016 about a murder in Nebraska, and the second in 2026.

Chandler’s Hal Jordan is a former test pilot about to retire from the Green Lantern Corps. Pierre is training John Stewart Jr., a new secretary, to replace him. Nathan Fillion repeats his Superman a role as the obnoxious Guy Gardner; we get a glimpse of him in the new teaser. The cast also includes Kelly MacDonald as Kerry, the family-oriented small-town sheriff; Jason Ritter as Billy Macon, Kerry’s husband; Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, Kerry’s cowboy father-in-law; Poorna Jagannathan as a woman named Zoe; Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, a former Corps member gone rogue; and Paul Ben-Victor as an alien named Antaan.
