Granit Xhaka transfer news: Chelsea interested in signing Sunderland midfielder to reunite with Xabi Alonso | football news

Chelsea are interested in signing Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka.

There has been no club-to-club contact and Sunderland will not entertain any offers as the midfielder is not for sale.

Xhaka is an option in midfield that Chelsea are looking at as they look to sign experienced players with proven Premier League experience.

Xhaka will turn 34 in September so Chelsea will not be paying for the odds.

He was signed by Sunderland for £13m last summer and has been instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League.

Xhaka was also keen on a return to London at the time, with West Ham an option, but decided against pursuing a move.

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso starts work next week and has had great success winning the Bundesliga with Xhaka at Bayer Leverkusen.
