Google it’s starting a new program for the type of AI images at Workspace that calls for Pics, and it has a new feature to try and reduce the complexity of AI images: Instead of writing quickly to change only one small part of the image, you will be able to click on what you want to change and leave notes on what you want to see, almost like leaving a comment in a Google Doc.
Images are driven by a combination of Gemini and Google’s Nano Banana 2 images. In a demonstration shown to the press, a Google employee working on an invitation for a child’s birthday party wants to change the parts of the invitation. He clicked on the picture of a cat, and then a small screen appeared where he left the input to change the picture of a cat to a dog. He clicked on the address displayed on the card to change the text, then asked Pics to change it. After the hit, the picture was really changed – even in the demo model, the new “dog” looks more like a cat.
The images are starting as an online program, first for what Google calls “trusted testers” and later this summer for subscribers to Google’s AI Ultra plan. The plan, eventually, is to integrate Pics into other Workspace apps so users can create and edit photos without leaving the app they’re using.
