Google, Microsoft, and xAI will allow the US government to review their new AI models

Google DeepMind, Microsoft, and Elon Musk’s xAI have agreed to require the US government to review new AI models before they are released to the public. In announcement on TuesdayThe Commerce Department’s AI Standards and Innovation Agency (CAISI) says it will work with AI companies to conduct “pre-deployment assessments and targeted research to better assess AI’s cross-border capabilities.”

CAIS, which started testing samples from OpenAI is Anthropic in 2024It says it has done 40 reviews so far. Both companies will “renegotiate their existing relationships with capital to better align with President Donald Trump’s AI Action Plan,” According to Bloomberg.

The White House may advance this review in the future, such as Monday’s report from The New York Times suggests that Trump is considering a major executive order that would “bring together senior technology and government officials” to oversee new forms of AI.
