All transactions on the Google Play Store platform accrue a 5 percent commission — even the commission for publishers who earn less than $1 million. Google says that the commission is set at 5 percent in the original markets, but it may be different in other regions.
A launch date of June 30 was reported for the initial market launch, but Google will eventually roll out the update globally. Australia will join the new tariff on September 30, and on December 31, Japan and Korea will go up. All other regions will move to the new system on September 30, 2027.
Google is also working to improve the software, known as Games Level Up and Software Experiencewhich can give developers a break. The game app is already there, offering more features of the Play Store in exchange for using other features of Google Play. Soon it will also include low cost.
The Apps Experience program is new and will offer the same revenue as non-playable content in Google Play. The software will be available to developers in Europe, the UK, Australia, and the US on September 30 this year. They will be opened to developers in other countries as they are added to the new payment system.
All in all, these changes will help developers make more money on Google’s platform, but they won’t change the game. Google is still in control of the Android app, and it’s still getting a cut of everything. This may change when Google reaches its next level, which has not been announced today.
Under the agreement, Google must also certify third-party app stores and allow them to operate like the Play Store on devices. This can take a long time to complete, especially when Google starts up again promote program verification in the coming months.
