Mother of a former Cape Verdean player Vozinha was granted a visa to enter the United States during the preparation of the next game of the National Committee of his 40-year-old son, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries announced.
Vozinha and his mother “will be reunited in Miami during the game on Sunday”, Jeffries shared on Wednesday on social media.
Vozinha made a name for himself at the start of the World Cup after making a great save in the 0-0 draw with Spain, one of the tournament’s expected victories over tiny Cape Verde.
Ana Candida Evora was unable to travel to see her son because of the cost of paying the visa debt to the US.
After the match, Vozinha said his mother could not get a visa to enter the US to watch him play.
Jeffries, the minority leader of the US House of Representatives, said he urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to allow it Wordslet the mother enter the country.
The Democrat revealed that all funds have been withdrawn and travel arrangements are being made to take him to Cape Verde’s next game in Miami.
“I thank Secretary Rubio, the officials of the US State Department, the government of Cabo Verde and FIFA for working together to make this possible,” Jeffries said.
Cape Verde will face Uruguay in their second Group H match on Sunday.
