Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games: Eilish McColgan battles broken leg to make event

Scotland’s Ailish McColgan is giving herself “every chance” to defend her Commonwealth Games 10,000m title in her home country on Monday as she recovers from a leg fracture, mother and coach Liz said.

McColgan, 35, emulated his mother by roaring to gold in Birmingham four years ago in one of the event’s most iconic moments.

In an injury-plagued spell since then, he has transitioned to road racing but is committed to returning to the track so he can compete in a second home Games in Glasgow after doing the steeplechase in 2014.

However, battling a horrific leg injury at April’s London Marathon resulted in an untimely stress fracture, putting McColgan’s participation in Monday’s historic mile event at Scotstown in serious doubt.
