According to X’s Mister Sheep, the Simeone family with Giuliano is now one of only 3 duos (fathers and sons) in World Cup history to start against the same team in World Cup qualifiers.
Diego Simeone started against England in the 1/8 finals of the 1998 World Cup.
This achievement was preceded by the Brazilian da Goya family, where father Domingos da Goya started in the 1938 World Cup round of 16 against Poland, and then son Ademir also started against Poland in the 1974 World Cup third-place match.
