The director of Star Wars George Lucas has added his voice to a growing group of filmmakers embracing the use of AI tools in video production.

Speaking in an interview with Rabbit’s FootLucas, 82, said: “Artificial intelligence means it’s easier for us to make movies.”

Arguing against this new technology, he continued, “is like sitting here saying, ‘Well, I believe the horse and cart is where it is.’

Adopting such weapons, Lucas continued, is inevitable. There is nothing you can do. I’m moving forward, it’s the future.

Lucas isn’t the only Star Wars film director to come out in favor of AI. British film producer Gareth Edwardswho made Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and, more recently, Jurassic World Rebirth, said that the reproductive AI “is a genius who knows how to help you”.

However there are notable characters, including The Odyssey director Christopher Nolan, himself recently commented: “I’ve never seen a technology that Wall Street and investors have adopted so well … that people have been so against it. Especially young people, they’ve coined the term ‘AI slop’ …

Meanwhile Steven Soderbergh, whose script John Lennon: Final Questions includes AI-generated sequences, has shown conflict. “I don’t think it’s the solution to any problem, and I don’t think it’s the death of anything. We’re in the early stages. Five years from now, we can all say, ‘That was the fun part.’

As well as AI, Lucas also told the website his opinion about how companies use the test of the audience and the groups they are looking for. He said: “I don’t like groups of people. “The audience doesn’t know what they want to see. If they don’t like someone, that’s interesting, and as a filmmaker I want to know why.
