George Clooney, Tom Hanks, and Meryl Streep push back on the ‘Human Consent Standard’ for AI consent

The Human Consent Standard is based on the Really Simple Licensing (RSL) Standard, which it was launched last year as a way to create websites show how AI systems their use. The newly established standard is supported by talent such as George Clooney, Viola Davis, Tom Hanks, Kristen Stewart, Steven Soderbergh, and Meryl Streep, as well as organizations such as the Creative Artists Agency and the Music Artists Coalition.

In an email to SeasideRSL Media cofounder Eckart Walther says that, like the RSL Standard, AI systems can access the Human Consent Standard through robots.txt websitewhich tells web crawlers and AI if they can scrape your content. But Walther says that while “RSL often applies to a specific link,” the Human Consent Standard “applies to its basis, personality, character, or symbol, wherever it appears.”

The AI ​​system will check this announcement against the launch of the registry in June, which will allow people to verify their identity and establish permissions to use their features and creative services. From there, RSL Media will “translate” these words into signals that AI systems can read. “The purpose of the Registry is to provide people and rights holders with a reliable place to publish that information, so that responsible AI systems can check whether an activity, form, word, behavior, or type is permitted, prohibited, or requires permission,” said Walther.
