Geekbench 7 will push your computer or phone harder to score well

Primate Labs is being released Geekbench 7the latest generation of its popular calculator. Geekbench 7 has new video and encoding/decoding tests, revised multi-mode tests, and larger datasets, more difficult for CPUs and GPUs to pass. It seems to behave like Geekbench 6, and a Pro license it will cost $99 immediately ($79 off until August 6th).

Geekbench 7 Pro license allows offline benchmarking that is not uploaded to Geekbench Browserand it still covers all compatible platforms for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Geekbench is one of the design benchmarks we use to review laptops here Seaside. I’ve always liked how simple and fast Geekbench is, but its short duration also means that it’s a quick test of computer bursts rather than a standard load that can load CPUs and GPUs. (One of his tests involves providing a 1.5MB PDF file, which should be around the same time as modern chips.)

Primate Labs says that Geekbench 7 uses “the most important set of parameters to accurately capture the performance of modern software tools.” The new audio/video tests now include AV1, Opus, color video assembly, downloads, and a wide range of applications. And the multi-threaded benchmarks are designed to better reflect the actual performance of the software since the new tasks are only running with multiple threads while similar tasks are running that way.

All of this sounds like a familiar change, although the Geekbench 7 test takes a few minutes to run. The results from Geekbench 6 are not compatible with Geekbench 7. So if you are the testing type, feel free to join me in spirit in all groups of new tests and retests. Always practice.
