Teranga Cubs confirm the awakening of Senegalese football
Senegal were crowned champions of the Africa Under-17 Cup hosted by Morocco after beating Tanzania 4-2 on penalties in the final on Tuesday night, after a 1-1 draw after regular time.
The match at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in the Moroccan capital of Rabat saw a strong start for the Tanzanian side who opened the scoring early through Hamis Mihambo in the seventh minute.
However, in the second half, the Senegalese managed to make a comeback, and in the 64th minute, Ibrahima Dione scored the equalizer.

After the match ended in a draw, the two teams went straight to penalty kicks, with Senegal winning 4-2 to win their second continental title in the junior category after winning their first in 2023.
On the other hand, the Tanzanian national team’s dream of winning their first ever African title evaporated in their first appearance at the finals despite their remarkable campaign that saw Egypt exit the semi-finals 4-3 on penalties.

Senegal reached the final after a thrilling 7-6 penalty shoot-out win over Morocco after a 1-1 draw after regular time in a showdown played in front of a huge crowd in Rabat.
In doing so, Senegal won their second title on Moroccan soil this year, after the first team beat Morocco in the final of the senior Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, before the Confederation of African Football decided to take back the title and award it to the Atlas Lions, with Sadio Mane’s team-mates threatening a comeback to finish the game.
In turn, the Egyptian youth team won the bronze medal after defeating Morocco 2:0 in the match held on Monday evening.
Four teams – Senegal, Tanzania, Egypt and Morocco – have guaranteed their participation in the U-17 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Qatar later this year.
