The Tigers are close to signing a new contract
“Al-Ittihad” club in Luxembourg has found a new solution to the midfield crisis in the current period.
Al-Ittihad are looking to strengthen the midfield with at least two deals, especially following the departure of Brazilian Fabinho at the end of his contract and the injury to Malian Mamadou Doumbia at the end of last season.
Saudi Arabian journalist Majid Hood wrote in his personal account on the “X” website that “Al-Ittihad” club is conducting advanced negotiations to sign a contract with midfielder Leandro Barreiro of “Benfica” and the Luxembourg national team.
Barreiro mainly plays as a central midfielder and has the ability to play as a playmaker or defensive midfielder, making him an ideal choice for German coach Jens Wissing.
The 26-year-old football player has been playing in Benfica since 2024, when he moved there on a free basis after the end of his contract with Mainz, participating in 97 matches with them, during which he managed to score 11 goals and make 12 assists.
Barreiro, on the other hand, has featured for the Luxembourg national team since his first call-up in 2018, where he has made 73 international appearances, scoring two goals and setting up eight goals.
It is noteworthy that Al-Ittihad club has recently been linked with many midfield players, such as Egyptians Emam Ashour and Marwan Attia, Moroccans Sofia Amrabat and Ezedine Onahi, Nigerians Raphael Onedika and Wilfred Ndidi.
