From Boston to Miami: How the Tartan Army lit up the World Cup

In the fan zone at Bayford Park, Scotland fans swapped shirts with their Brazilian rivals, but their frustration was palpable.

At one stage they have been studying their play-off chances – from the time they returned to Boston to team up with Mexico to face Germany to the clash at the famous Azteca Stadium.

But spending thousands to travel around the world, they have only watched Scotland’s 13th major tournament in the draw.

It is an undeniable record in nine World Cups and four European Championships.

Indeed, no team has made it past multiple tournaments and advanced to the sudden-death rounds.

There was an anti-climactic feeling after Brazil’s defeat as many fans made the most of their remaining time in Miami.

This continued as the remaining 20 group games remained scoreless.

As the last foot soldiers prepare to head home, from Boston to Miami – and many stops in between – they can reflect on a show that has done Scotland proud.

We may not be world-beaters on the pitch but the Tartan Army have once again proved they are in a league of their own.
