French Open 2026 Results: Sorana Cirstia makes history by beating Solana Sierra 6-0 6-0

Sorana Cirestia continued her remarkable form in the twilight of her career as she defeated Solana Sierra 6-0, 6-0 to reach the fourth round of the French Open.

The 36-year-old is the oldest player in the Open era to claim a ‘double bagel’ in the main draw of a Grand Slam.

Victory over Argentinian Sierra made Cirstia the oldest player to reach the last 16 in women’s singles at Roland Garros since Serena Williams in 2021.

Romania’s Cerstia will retire at the end of 2026 but is enjoying the best spell of his 20-year career.

This is the first time Sarstia has advanced past the second round of a Grand Slam since the 2022 US Open.

Earlier this month she reached the semifinals of the Italian Open, beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka along the way.

Cirstea was dominant from start to finish, with her 21-year-old opponent never reaching game point in the match.

“I don’t feel like I’m doing anything different. I feel like I’m still doing the same thing — the same discipline and professionalism,” Sarstia said.

“Every time I step on the court, I feel like I have a lot to improve on. I have goals I want to improve on and that keeps me alive.

“I’ve always been around (world number) 20 the last couple of years, but I feel that consistency this season is what’s different.”

Cirstia will face China’s Wang Xiu. If he advances, he will reach the quarterfinals at Roland Garros for the first time in 17 years and equal his best run at a Grand Slam.

His previous major quarterfinal appearance came at the US Open in 2022.
