Last year, American world number five Jessica Pegula felt she had “hit her head against the wall” on the issue, while two-time Wimbledon finalist Ons Jaber questioned whether the decision-makers “have daughters”.
Questions have been raised about whether the French Open should do more to showcase the women’s game from 2023.
The lack of action recently prompted WTA chief executive Valerie Camillo to seek answers from French Open tournament director Amelie Mauresmo – the former women’s world number one – when they meet at Roland Garros this week.
In what the WTA described as an open and productive discussion, Camillo expressed her belief that women’s players have provided some of the “most exciting and dynamic competition in international sport” in recent months and years.
Mauresmo has consistently argued that the risk of women’s matches going “really fast” is the rationale behind the selections.
Tickets range from €60 to €280 (£50 to £240).
Mauresmo said night sessions would not be extended into two matches – such as the Australian Open and US Open – for fear of creating late finishes.
