Frédéric Vasseur: Ferrari boss to miss Monaco Grand Prix qualifying due to medical condition


Speaking in a pooled media interview after Friday’s run, Vasseur, 58, said: “It was difficult for everyone to put laps together and with 10% more cars (on the grid this year) it’s even more difficult.

“Now that we have a common understanding of the car, the tires are again dominating the performance, and with so many cars on the track it’s difficult to get a proper out-lap and I think it will be important for tomorrow, to be able to do a proper out-lap and a clean lap.”

Off track, Ferrari is in talks with fellow engine manufacturers, governing body the FIA ​​and commercial rights holder F1 over changes to the 2027 engine rules.

Ferrari is blocking a deal reached last month by all parties to change engine designs to reduce the amount of energy management required in new power-units that this year have a roughly 50-50 split between internal combustion and electric power.

The plan is to change the split to 60-40 in favor of internal combustion by increasing fuel flow.

But Ferrari wants to leave things as they are so they can benefit from permitted development and the opportunities given under the rules to upgrade those behind the best engines by a certain margin, while also preventing standard-setter Mercedes from upgrading their own engines.
