Frankie Dettori is seriously injured in a car crash in Newmarket.


Jockey Frankie Dettori suffered multiple broken ribs and a thumb after being involved in a car accident, management said.

A spokeswoman for H Talent Management confirmed the collision happened near Newmarket in Suffolk on Wednesday night.

Another vehicle hit the rear passengers of the car the 55-year-old was driving, causing it to spin and overturn, they said.

Dettori’s injuries are still being evaluated as he remains hospitalized for further testing and observation.

H Talent Management said: “Frankie would like to thank the emergency services who attended the scene along with the doctors, nurses and extensive medical team.

“The focus now is on his rest and recovery. H Talent Management respectfully requests that Frankie’s privacy be respected at this time.”

No further comment will be made until there is a meaningful update.

Dettori has not ridden in Britain since October 2023 after winning the King’s Stealth Championship at Asco.

But he had to get back in the saddle in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster at the St Leger Festival in September.

H Talent Management referred to Wednesday’s accident as an “accident.”

The collision happened on the Cambridgeshire border and the county’s police force has been approached for comment.
