Who are you waiting for?

Morocco and Real Madrid star Ibrahim Diaz has expressed his delight at the Atlas Lions’ qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a deserved three-goal win over Canada in the last 16 match of the tournament on Saturday night.

Speaking to Spain’s Cobe radio, Diaz stressed that qualification was the result of teamwork and tactical discipline that distinguished Morocco’s performance, noting that the team showed strong character in the knockout stages and deserved their place in the top eight of the World Cup.

Diaz was one of the standout stars of the game against Canada when he provided two assists, the first to Azedine Ounahi, who scored the second goal in the 82nd minute, and the second to Sofiane Rahimi in the 90th+8th minute, taking his tally to 4 since the start of the tournament for his national team.

In the mixed zone after the match, the 26-year-old Diaz spoke about the upcoming quarter-final clash, which will pit Morocco against the winner of next Saturday night’s France-Paraguay match, stressing that the team is ready for any opponent and that the aim is to continue with the same spirit and determination.

At the end of the speech, Diaz revealed his preference to face France in the next round, explaining: “I have colleagues who play for France, so if they qualify it will be better because in this case we will be playing against them,” referring to his relationship with Real Madrid team-mates Aurelien Choumini and Kylian Mbappe.
