Cape Verde goalkeeper Fossinha has expressed his pride at his team’s performance at the 2026 World Cup despite an early exit against world champions Argentina in the round of 32, stressing that the Blue Sharks came out with their heads held high, proving they are a strong contender for the reigning world champions.

Speaking to the press in the mixed zone of the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, after the loss to Argentina (2-3) in extra time, the 40-year-old goalkeeper said:

This enthusiasm allowed the Blue Sharks, who had never shown their strength in a World Cup game, to finish the group stage unbeaten after recording 3 straight draws (0-0 against Spain, European Championship, 2-2 against Uruguay and 0-0 against Saudi Arabia).

“It all came to a sad end, but I feel proud and satisfied with the way we went. The World Cup means a lot to us, because it was a goal that we have been striving for for a long time.
