Fortnite is getting a group of AI ‘personas’

Prepare for many AI characters Fortnite. Developer Epic Games has allowed it Fortnite developers publish experiences with AI-driven voices starting July 30, and before that, it is created 36 characters with “human defaults” that developers can use as NPCs. These characteristics include Fortnite such as Agent Jonesy, Peely (banana), Fishstick (a walking fish), and Team Leader Cuddle (who wears a pink bear mascot head).

Epic tested the waters of AI characters with last year’s Darth Vader NPC which was voice-controlled by James Earl Jones – a collaboration that Jones’ estate he signed. Even the players made Vader swear, something Epic to be fixed as soon as possiblethe company announced shortly after releasing Vader that Fortnite creators he could creating their own AI characters.

The new members’ voices rely on “recorded performances from independent artists specifically for use in producer-created islands,” Epic says. “Actors have consented to their performances being used to create voices that create meaningful responses for Fortnite characters powered by LLM.”

Bottom line, it looks like Epic wants to create characters with voices from famous actors who appeared in Fortnite the entire universe, but it will have to obtain the necessary permits to do so. “Our next step is to work with relevant organizations and voice actors who have previously worked on Fortnite Battle Royale to explore opportunities to make their original voices available in the Fortnite community,” the company said.
