The Saudi Arabian Football Association has begun assessing the national team’s participation in the 2026 World Cup following an early group stage exit amid public anger and calls for changes to the coaching staff led by Greece’s Georgios Donis.
Saudi Arabia bid farewell to the World Cup with a 0-0 draw with Cape Verde in the third and final round of the group stage, and picked up just two points from three games after a draw with Uruguay and a loss to Spain to finish fourth and last in Group 8.
reports a newspaper “Middle East“ Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Football Federation is waiting to receive two separate reports to assess Al-Akhdar’s participation in the tournament, a move that could determine the future of the coaching staff in the next round.
The newspaper adds that the first report will be presented by the Executive Director of Football, Matt Crocker, and the First Team CEO, Fahd Al-Mufaraj, will prepare the second report, provided that they include a comprehensive assessment of the various aspects accompanying the team’s participation, while looking at the most prominent positives and negatives at the technical and administrative levels.
Sources said the two reports will form the basis Saudi FA officials will rely on to make a final decision on whether to continue or end Donis’ mission, given the growing criticism of the Greek coach after the team’s modest performance at the World Cup.
