Philadelphia Flyers the center Noah Cates Will miss the rest of the series against them Carolina HurricanesThe team announced on Wednesday.
The Flyers return home for Game 3 of their series against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night, losing the first two games in Raleigh.
Cates, 27, has lower body injuries. One goal and three assists in 8 playoff games for the Flyers after the best offensive performance of his five-year NHL career: 18 goals and 29 assists (47 points) in 82 games. Cates averaged 16:20 of ice time per game. But his influence goes beyond his crime. Cates is one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL, as the Flyers averaged just 1.67 goals against per 60 minutes with him on the ice at 5-on-5 during the regular season.
“I mean, he’s been Mr. Consistency all year. Does a lot for us,” coach Rick Tocchett said. “But like I said, it’s no different than any other team. Next man up. You’ve heard the drill before.”
Tocchet said the Flyers are still strong in the middle against the Hurricanes, who are deep in center. the rookie Denver Berkey20, has seen more time in the center. Touchet Dr Trevor Zegrass Will be brought back to the center to “get him going.” Other centers are: Sean Couturier And Christian Dvorakwho is day-to-day with an injury but is expected to play in Game 3.
The Flyers have been challenged offensively against Carolina’s defense and goaltending, getting shut out in Game 1 and then scoring two goals in Game 2.
“I think to help some guys who are struggling against Carolina, they have to have a shot first mentality. You have to be able to make a play around them,” Tocchet said. “I think some guys are overpassing and that’s what Carolina is good at. They overpass you. But if you throw their stride, you can push them. Get a chance.”
