Fiji vs England: Henry Slade returns to England’s starting line-up

Center Henry Slade, who did not play a minute in England’s Six Nations campaign earlier this year, has been called into the starting line-up to face Fiji on Saturday as head coach Steve Borthwick tries to avoid a sixth straight Test defeat.

Slade, 33, has previously admitted he was frustrated at being left out of England’s midfield equation. He ended his domestic season on a high note by guiding Exeter to the Premier Final.

His return means Northampton’s Tommy Freeman is deployed in his usual wing position after a year-long attempt to switch to outside centre.

Guy Pepper replaces Tom Curry at openside flanker in another change to the starting XV, while the uncapped trio of Benhard Janse van Rensburg, Noah Curry and George Kloska are set to make their Test debuts off the bench.

England: M. Smith; Freeman, Slade, Atkinson, Fay-Waboso; F Smith, van Poortvliet; Jenge, George, Hayes, Coles, Martin, Chesum, Pepper, Earl

Substitutions: Cowan-Dickie, Opoku-Forgeor, Kloska, Carey, Pollock, Mitchell, Janse van Rensburg, Cal.
